The journey of 1963 The Musical “A Very British Invasion” began in 2004 and has now spanned more than two decades of writing, collaboration and creative development. What started as an idea has grown into a fully original musical, shaped by the dedication, talent and belief of many respected artists over the years.
Key developmental milestones along the way include a 2016 read-through in Toronto and a 2024 workshop in Stratford. The 2016 Toronto read-through brought together Isaac Bell, Greg Borris, Steph Bye, Jonathan Ellul, Alex Kelly, Mary Long, Samantha Walkes and Music Director, David Warrack, helping to give early shape and clarity to the work in a live setting. The 2024 Stratford workshop continued that process of refinement, featuring Connor Boa, Greg Borris, Steph Bye, Lorne Kennedy, Rick Kish, Leisa Way and Julia Webb. Further strengthening the storytelling, music and emotional structure of the piece.
Throughout its development, the project has also been supported by individuals whose encouragement and belief helped sustain it over many years, including Ralph Small, Ted Baerg, Allison Grant, Natalie Grant and Costin Manu.
Among those whose influence remains an important part of the journey is the late Brian McKay, whose creativity, encouragement and belief in the work left a lasting mark on its early development. Though Brian is no longer with us, his contribution remains part of the story of 1963 The Musical.
We are proud to continue that journey and to share the work with audiences today and to introduce the team looking to bring it to the stage for its World Premiere in London, Ontario – Summer 2027.
